Atomising is not just used for the production of powders that go into the more obvious applications such as the production of components or coatings. The technique is used in the field of metals refining too.

Atomisation is chosen as the powders produced have a large amount of surface area and are well suited to hydrometallurgical processes

 

Atomising is used in the zinc purification processes where atomised zinc is added to the sulphate so as to displace and precipitate out any less reactive elements present.

 

ASL has a huge amount of experience in atomisers for refining processes, from a batch of a few kgs of precious metals, to a 500kg per minute atomiser for cobalt containing alloys.
